Positive 2020

Happy New Year to the staff, the clients, the volunteers, the Board of Directors and all of you who support Community Living Interlake, and the Something Beautiful Café and Gift Shop.

As suggested by our team leaders we are choosing the slogan Positive 2020 for the coming year.  Together, as a team, we will try to apply this positive attitude to our jobs and our responsibilities to support our clients.

“Never look back, except for an occasional glance, look ahead and plan for the future. Success is not built on past laurels, but rather on a continuous activity. Keep busy searching out new ideas and, experimentally, keep ahead of the times, or at least up with them. “    Dorothy Draper

This year CLI celebrates 55 years of service to Stonewall and nearby communities.  We have come a long way from the days when our first volunteers were campaigning for their family member’s right to an education.  In 2020 we support and assist over 50 adults with housing, recreation, and job skills training and our mission includes inclusion as productive and contributing community members.

In the year ahead we will face many challenges and enjoy many successes.  We know that in 2020 the province of Manitoba will be presenting us with more changes to our funding formulas and that we are going to have to change to meet the reality of reduced funding.  But we are not going to dwell in the past or get stuck on the negatives.  We are going to keep looking forward.

  • We’re looking forward to the results of our RBC Youth grant. Chosen as one of the 5 best in Canada the goal of this program is to create a series of videos that highlight the challenges and successes of living with a physical or intellectual challenge in a small town.  We’re looking forward to many more successful grants and fundraising activities.
  • We’re looking forward to Spring and the reinvigoration of the successful greenhouse project, started last year. This project gives clients a sense of achievement, teaches them new skills and gives them recreation in fresh air.  We’re looking forward to Summer and spending time on the beach at Quarry Park, with our water accessible wheelchair.
  • We’re looking forward to working with Abilities Manitoba as one of the case studies for the Personal Outcomes Measures program. The goal of this program is to quantify the impact of our programs in terms other than just dollars and cents.  We’re looking forward to continuing to improve and upgrade our services.
  • We’re looking forward to continuing to serve the people who live and visit Stonewall in Something Beautiful Café and Gift Shop. In return, we’re looking forward to your ongoing patronage and your ongoing support of all of our programs.

These are just some of the things we are looking forward to.  Most of all we are looking forward to continuing our tradition of support and service to our clients, adults who live with intellectual disabilities.
